Twenty-eight members of the Camp Kiesel 2008 staff arrived at camp on Monday; eager to work, and make a difference in the lives of over 8,000 Scouts this summer.
This year's staff has been making preparations for this year's program since January. Meeting every month, staff members have prepared lessons, perfected teaching methods, and assisted at the Council's 2008 Scout-O-Rama.
Throughout the past week, staff members have participated in many projects, including: reconstructing the aquatics area, the archery range, and building Kiesel's newest activity station- wrist rockets! Fort Kiesel has been set-up to bring participants back to the early 1800's. This year's trading post is stocked with items that resemble the rendezvous of mountain men and indians- rabbit, fox, and badger furs, pocket knives, and mountain men trinkets.
Within the fort's doors visitors will be greeted by our newest addition to the fort atmosphere- our Indian Lore station. Participants will be greeted by staff dressed in era costumes and learn about the wild frontier. Kiesel's new tepee and mountain man camp will remind participants of the Old West's heritage.
